FREQUENTLY ASKED

Common questions.
Clear answers.

Does my food or ingredient company need to register?+

The requirement generally applies to facilities that manufacture, process, pack, or hold food for U.S. human or animal consumption. Ingredients, flavors, and dietary supplement components can be within scope. Exemptions and supply-chain circumstances must be reviewed.

Does FDA charge a registration fee?+

FDA does not charge for food facility registration or renewal. USAgent.com is an independent private service; any agreed fees are for our services. You are not required by FDA to use a third-party provider.

What does a U.S. agent do?+

A U.S. agent acts as a communications link between FDA and a foreign food facility. Appointment and responsibilities should be agreed before the agent is designated.

Is registration the same as FDA approval?+

No. Registration does not establish FDA approval of a facility or its products. Other food safety, ingredient, labeling, and import requirements may apply.

What information should I prepare?+

Prepare the physical facility details, contacts, trade names, product categories, activities, and an FDA-acceptable unique facility identifier. Foreign facilities also need U.S. agent details. Do not submit passwords or confidential account credentials in an inquiry.
